The goals of this group are to increase our knowledge of Visual Basic, network with other members, pass along job opportunities, and solve common problems of programming.

The Portland Visual Basic User Group had it's first meeting on November 9, 1994 at the local offices of Microsoft in Lincoln Centre Tower. Thirty three people were in attendance. John Coffey, Moss Micro, gave a presentation on graphical interface design. The name of pdxVbug was adopted as the official name. Walt Anderson, network manager with Pope & Talbot, offered the group a permanent meeting place at Pope & Talbot. Starting in December of 1997, PricewaterhouseCoopers (Coopers & Lybrand Consulting) became our sponsers for the permanent meeting place. Due to 9/11 and increased security restrictions, we changed our meeting location to Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. In addition, our regular meeting night was changed from the second Monday to the second Tuesday of each month.

Since the initial meeting, pdxVbug has always met each month - the exception -two meetings that were cancelled due to weather. Our first newsletter was published in February of 1995. In early summer of 1995, our web site went online at Teleport. Teleport furnished without charge space and services on their network until May of 1998 when the site was relocated at Digiweb. This move was made to position the transition to Active Server Pages and Microsoft SQL. In October 2001, we changed to a local ISP - Internet Communications. Steve Sagnotti established a member's library with various books, software, and training material.

Our goals for the future are to increase the effectiveness of the employment opportunities page on our web site, to establish a permanent site where classroom instruction will be possible with the facility being open to the members everyday, and to have some fun doing this.
